Potential

“I like to imagine that the world is one big machine. You know, machines never have any extra parts. They have the exact number and type of parts they need. So I figure if the entire world is a big machine, I have to be here for some reason. And that means you have to be here for some reason, too.”
― Brian Selznick, The Invention of Hugo Cabret

I see the best in everyone.

Sometimes, we aren’t ready to see (or can’t perceive) the incredible resources we have within ourselves, and how they are the doorway to our personal greatness. I’ve got a knack for seeing people in their full potential – RIGHT NOW. One of my roles as a coach is to assist in helping individuals or groups to witness their own potential, and the resources they already have that are waiting to be fully activated.

I see you. Not just as you are right now, but as the biggest YOU you have the potential to be. I see you standing in all that potential right where you are at this moment. It’s all there, it’s already being tapped into – my job is help you to see how it is already happening, and facilitate your empowerment and supports while you experiment with the wings you didn’t know you had.

Like the quote above says, I help people figure their part out.
I also help groups figure out who does what, why, how, and where.
Coaching is one of the most delicious things that I do. I’ve been doing it since my early 20s and will do it until I’m 103. (Hold me to that). Nothing feels as good as facilitating a Eureka!, a release of something eons old, or witnessing a client hitting their vein of inspiration. Sometimes the coaching is one instrument in a symphony I lead with a team or for a purpose.

Most of my clients come to me by referral, or because we have already encountered each other and their gut tells them they are safe to explore with me. Feeling some magnetism with me? Drop me a line. We’ll talk about my rates, what is possible for you, what coaching involves, and I’ll schedule you in for a taster session. I believe support should be accessible, and am willing to co-create a financial plan that will not cause undue burden on the essentials of your life.

There is something else about me that is important to many of my coaching clients.

I grew up in the Worldwide Church of God, a cult/alternative religion whose practices and beliefs had a tremendous impact on my self-beliefs and interactions with the world. I went through many years of uncovering, unwrapping, naming, discarding and replacing the unhealthy, unhelpful, and in many cases outright harmful messages that were instilled in me through these experiences. I have first-hand experience and knowledge of the insidiousness of spiritual abuse (that can be present in both religious and secular contexts); the physical, sexual, and mental abuse that hides under the cloak of holiness; and the pressures to conform within a community where silence reigns.

Hurt people hurt people. And healed people heal others.

I am well along my healing journey, and continue to devote attention and effort to the deepening of this. It is an honour to accompany fellow former-WCG members or anyone who has emerged out of any other cult or spiritually abusive background to further their healing journey.

When you are fed up with being held back by the lingering legacy of your past, my work is to help you navigate out from under it and into a brighter, stronger, whole-er and healthier future.

Have a goal that I might help your organization reach?

I’ve been working as a professional coach since 2011 (with a skillset that has been at work since 1998), and a certified counsellor as of 2008. I have facilitated workshops and trainings both as an employee of the Red Cross and as an independent contractor on topics such violence prevention, emotional resilience, and organization vision crafting/alignment/team building.

I pioneered a non-profit project in Sri Lanka, founding and running a community-college type school for 7 years. I’ve had many subsequent projects, usually focused on a mutual goal but with my personal aim of creating community: an entrepreneur group for solo business owners; a home and work/retreat space that supports and fosters transition between life situations; a group focused on healing and analysis for former members of the Worldwide Church of God;  a group focused on equipping and empowering individuals who feel at sea in life; and currently a project to divert furniture from landfills and into workshop space where refugee and immigrant hands will find employment upcycling them.

I have honed skills for uncovering the deep values that represent what is inspiring for clients and colleagues in order to achieve transformative learning. With years of work in project management, education and counselling provide me with tremendous experience in conflict resolution, management, process creation, curriculum development, cross-cultural communication, teaching modalities and assessing adult and youth learning preferences and communication styles. In plain language: I find the ‘why’s’ that inform the ‘how’s’ and then walk a team through process until it gets done!

I am open to receiving invitations to collaborate and for contract work!
