My roots equip me to support you

I am a human development professional.

Yes, this is a car selfie.

I am an experienced counsellor and coach, teacher, and pioneer in nonprofit project development both overseas and in BC. In my 20s, I co-founded a school in Sri Lanka to equip rural youth with the skills required to obtain employment that would lift their families out of poverty. I trained as a counsellor at the Theological College of Lanka. Back in Canada, as a single mother, I spearheaded innovative projects designed to foster community, create stability for vulnerable populations, and address community needs such as housing, employment, and mental health.

My work has engaged me with Inuit and First Nations communities, youth, single mothers, recent immigrants, and survivors of abuse and poverty in both urban and rural locations.

My decades of experience across cultural, faith, and socio-economic paradigms have refined my diplomacy and connection-building with individuals and groups at levels that enable transformative development. Experienced in violence prevention, conflict resolution, and curriculum development, I am also an experienced facilitator and creative problem-solver who generates ideas, turns ideas into action plans, and leads teams to fruition.

In my spare time, I co-hosted an interview show for 7 years via a radio station in Vancouver, and more recently a Substack featuring podcasts and articles supporting women who have escaped extreme religions.

My story holds the roots that enable me to support you.

I grew up in the Worldwide Church of God, a cult/alternative religion whose practices and beliefs had a tremendous impact on my self-beliefs and interactions with the world. I went through many years of uncovering, unwrapping, naming, discarding and replacing (or reclaiming) the many messages that were instilled in me through these experiences. I have first-hand experience and knowledge of the insidiousness of spiritual abuse (even in secular contexts); the physical, sexual, and mental abuse that hides under the cloak of holiness; and the pressures to conform within a community where silence reigns.

I am polyamorous, neurodivergent, and am ally, kin and community to queer folk. I celebrate the gorgeous diversity our brains, bodies, gender identities, sexualities, cultures, faiths, and relationship styles bring to this world. I delight in meeting you where you are, helping you figure out where you want to be, and supporting you in making progress in your desired direction.

“I like to imagine that the world is one big machine. You know, machines never have any extra parts. They have the exact number and type of parts they need. So I figure if the entire world is a big machine, I have to be here for some reason. And that means you have to be here for some reason, too.”
― Brian Selznick, The Invention of Hugo Cabret

My place and purpose in this world is to witness and reflect what I see in others; their resilience, potential, strengths, hidden wounds, and the patterns that run through it all. In doing so, I enable my clients to discover their ‘reason’.
